Japanese cuisine is not everyone's favourite, but I highly recommend - for those tentative to try or who have decided to dislike it- that you book a table at Canberra's newest Japanese restaurant at the Burbury Hotel. My bet is you'll try dishes not seen elsewhere in the capital and change your view. As for those who already love this amazing cuisine? You'll love LiloTang.

I was told that whenever a new restaurant opens up in Canberra they end up getting absolutely slammed with customers, irrespective of whether the place is any good or not. In that sense, brand new venue Lilotang need not be concerned about attracting hungry locals, partly because there aren't many Japanese restaurants in our nation's capital, let alone many on this level. It's the repeat customers that are the real challenge for a lot of new venues; Lilotang won't be having any issues there either. Co-owner Po Yang Chla and Head Chef Shunsuke Ota (ex-Nobu,Melbourne.Yes, THAT Nobu) are certainly bringing their A-game to Canberra, delivering intriguing and innovative Japanese food that is well worth marking Lilotang on your map of Canberra with a giant 'X' (because it's treasure, get it).

Nagasaki-born head chef Shunsuke Ota, formerly of Nobu Melbourne, is creating innovative Japanese food matched with a sake rice wine menu at the brand-new LiloTang in the Burbury Hotel and Apartments in Barton's Realm Precinct. There's manga-inspired artwork on the walls and the charcoal roasts on the robata grill.

This modern Japanese eatery, set to open tomorrow night, certainly has the pedigree. It’s the newest addition to the Chairman Group stable (Chairman & Yip, Lanterne Rooms, Malamay), and has brought the big guns to the kitchen in the form of Shunsuke Ota (ex sous chef at Nobu Melbourne). Oh yes, Canberra, you’re in for a treat.
Canberra is set to get a taste of Japan with the impending opening of LiloTang Japanese restaurant. Step inside and you’re greeted with a mix of traditional and modern design with manga on a dividing screen and large decorative timber dividers that instantly turn the spacious venue into private rooms.
